MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE
Disp osin g of  Used  Engin e Oil  and  Oil  Filters
shou ld  be  insp ected  at  the   specified  intervals   and   re-
placed  if  requ ired . Improp er belt  tension  can  cause  belt
slippage   and   failu re.  Low  generator    belt  tension    can
cause  battery  failu re.
Care shou ld  be taken  in disposing  of  used engine  oil and
oil  filters   from  you r  vehicle.   Used  oil  and   oil  filters,
ind iscrim inately discard  ed, can  present  a problem   to the
environm ent.   Contact   you r  dealer,   service   station,   or
governm ental  agency  for advice  on how  and  where  used
oil and  oil  filters can  be safely  discard ed  in  you r area.
At  the  mileage  ind icated  in  the  maintenance    sched ule,
insp ect belt and  belt tensioner   cond ition. Insp ect belts for
evid ence  of  cuts,  cracks,  glazing,   or  frayed   cord s and
rep laced  if there   is ind ication  of  damage,   which  could
resu lt in belt failu re. Also, check belt rou ting to  make sure
there   is  no  interference    betw een  the   belts  and   other
engine  components.   See  you r authorized   dealer   for ser-
vice.
Engine Oil Filter
The  engine  oil filter  shou ld  be rep laced  at every  engine
oil change.
Engin e Oil  Filter  Selection
This  manu factu rer’s  engines   have   a  full-flow  typ e  oil
filter. Use a filter  of this typ e for rep lacem ent. The quality
of  rep lacem ent  filters   varies   consid erably.   Only  high
quality   filters  shou ld  be  used   to  assu re  most  efficient
service.  Mop arEngine  Oil  Filters are  a high  quality   oil
filter  and  are recom mend ed.
Spark Plugs
Spark  plugs  must   fire prop erly  to  assu re engine  perfor-
mance  and   emission  control.   New  plugs   shou ld be  in-
stalled  at  the specified  mileage.   The entire  set  shou ld be
rep laced if there  is any  malfunction  due  to a faulty  spark
plug.  Malfu nctioning   spark  plugs  can  damage   the cata-
lytic  converter.   For  prop er  typ e  of  rep lacem ent  spark
plugs,  refer   to  the  “Vehicle  Emission  Control   Inform a-
tion”  label  in the  engine  compartm  ent.
Drive Belts — Check Condition  and Tension
Belt  tension   is  controlled    by  means   of   an  autom atic
tensioner.   Therefore,   no   belt   tension   adjustm ents   are
requ ired . However,    belt  and   belt   tensioner   cond ition
