THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR  VEHICLE
NOTE:
WARN ING!
Ensu re  that  the   tether   strap  does   not  slip   into  the
opening  betw een the  seat backs as you  rem ove slack in
the  strap .
Improp  er  installation     of   a  child   restrain  t  to   the
LATCH anchorages   can  lead to  failu re of an infan  t or
child  restrain  t. The  child   could  be  badly  injured   or
killed .  Follow  the  manufactu  rer’s  direction  s exactly
when  installin  g  an infan  t or  child  restrain t.
When  using  the  LATCH  attaching  system   to install  a
child  restraint,    please  ensu re  that   all  seat  belts  not
being  used  for occupant  restraints   are stow ed  and out
of  reach  of  child ren.  It is  recom mend ed  that   before
installing  the  child restraint,   buckle the  seat belt  so the
seat belt  is tucked  behind  the child  restraint  and  out of
reach.  If the buckled  seat  belt  interferes  with  the child
restraint   installation,   instead   of tucking   the  seat  belt
behind  the  child  restraint,   rou te the seat  belt  throu gh
the  child  restraint   belt  path  and  then   buckle  it.  This
shou ld  stow   the   seat  belt   out   of  the  reach   of  an
inqu isitive  child . Remind   all  child ren  in  the  vehicle
that  the   seat  belts   are  not  toys   and  shou ld  not   be
played  with,  and never  leave  you r child unattend  ed in
the  vehicle.
Installin  g Child   Restrain ts  Usin g the  Vehicle  Seat
belt
The passenger   seat  belts are  equ ipped  with  either  cinch-
ing latch  plates or  autom atic locking  retractors,  which  are
designed   to keep  the  lap  portion  tight   arou nd the  child
restraint  so  that  it is  not necessary   to use  a locking  clip.
Pulling  up  on  the  shou lder  portion  of the  lap/  shou lder
belt  will  tighten   the  belt.  The  cinching  latch  plate   will
keep  the  belt  tight,  how ever,  any  seat  belt  system   will
loosen  with  time, so check  the  belt occasionally,  and  pull
it tight  if necessary.
Seat  belts  with   an  autom atic   locking  retractor   have   a
distinctive   label  on the  seat  belt  webbing.   The seat  belt
must  be in the autom  atic locking  mode in  ord er to enable
