DONOTfillafuelcontainerwhileitisinthevehicle(includingthe
cargoarea).

Keepthefuelpumpnozzleincontactwiththefuelcontainerwhile
filling.
DONOTuseadevicethatwouldholdthefuelpumphandleinthefill
position.
Fuel filler cap (if equipped)
Yourfueltankfillercapmayhaveanindexeddesignwitha1/4turn
on/offfeature.
Whenfuelingyourvehicle:

Turntheengineoff.
Carefullyturnthefillercapcounterclockwise1/4ofaturntounscrew
thecap.

Pulltoremovethecapfromthefuelfillerpipe.
Reinstallthecaponthefillerpipeandturnitclockwiseuntilatleast
oneclickisheard.
Ifthecheckfuelcaplight
ora“checkfuelcap”messagecomeson,
thefuelfillercapmaynotbeproperlyinstalled.Thelightormessagecan
comeonafterseveraldrivingeventsafteryou’verefueledyourvehicle.
Atthenextopportunity,safelypulloffoftheroad,removethefuelfiller
cap,alignthecapproperlyandreinstallit.Thecheckfuelcap
light
or“checkfuelcap”messagemaynotresetimmediately;itmay
takeseveraldrivingcyclesforthecheckfuelcaplight or“checkfuel
cap”messagetoturnoff.Adrivingcycleconsistsofanenginestart-up
(afterfourormorehourswiththeengineoff)followedbycityand
highwaydriving.
Continuingtodrivewiththecheckfuelcaplight
or“checkfuelcap”
messageonmaycausethe lighttoturnonaswell.
Ifyoumustreplacethefuelfillercap,replaceitwithafuelfiller
capthatisdesignedforyourvehicle.Thecustomerwarrantymay
bevoidforanydamagetothefueltankorfuelsystemifthe
correctgenuineFord,Motorcraftorothercertifiedfuelfillercap
isnotused.
