Seatingachildinachild-restraintsystemonthefrontpassengerseatisdangerous:
Vehiclesequippedwithfrontpassengerseatweightsensorsarealsoequippedwitha
frontpassengerairbagdeactivationindicatorlight(page2-35).Evenwiththefront
passengerseatweightsensors,ifyoumustusethefrontpassengerseatforchildren,
seatingachildinachild-restraintsystemonthefrontpassengerseatunderthe
followingconditionsincreasesthedangerofthefrontpassengerairbagdeploying
andcouldresultinseriousinjuryordeathtothechild.
ØThetotalseatedweightofthechildwiththechild-restraintsystemonthefront
passengerseatisapproximately30kg(66lb)ormorewithachildinthechild-
restraintsystem.
ØLuggageorotheritemsareplacedontheseatwiththechildinthechild-restraint
system.
ØArearpassengerorluggagepushorpulldownonthefrontpassengerseatback.
ØArearpassengerputstheirfeetonthefrontseatrails.
ØLuggageorotheritemsareplacedontheseatbackorhungontheheadrestraint.
ØTheseatiswashed.
ØLiquidsarespilledontheseat.
ØThefrontpassengerseatismovedbackward,pushingintoluggageorotheritems
placedbehindit.
ØThefrontpassengerseatbackcontactstherearseat.
ØLuggageorotheritemsareplacedbetweenthefrontpassengerseatanddriver
seat.
ØAnyaccessories,whichmightincreasethetotalseatedweightonthefront
passengerseat,areattachedtothefrontpassengerseat.
Thedesignatedpositionswithseatbeltsontherearseatsarethesafestplacesfor
children.Alwaysuseseatbeltsandchildrestraints.
Donotallowachildoranyonetoleanoveroragainstthesidewindowofavehicle
withsideandcurtainairbags:
Itisdangeroustoallowanyonetoleanoveroragainstthesidewindow,theareaof
thefrontpassengerseat,thefrontandrearwindowpillarsandtheroofedgealong
bothsidesfromwhichthesideandcurtainairbagsdeploy,evenifachild-restraint
systemisused.Theimpactofinflationfromasideorcurtainairbagcouldcause
seriousinjuryordeathtoanoutofpositionchild.Furthermore,leaningoveror
againstthefrontdoorcouldblockthesideandcurtainairbagsandeliminatethe
advantagesofsupplementalprotection.Withthefrontairbagandtheadditional
sideairbagthatcomesoutofthefrontseat,therearseatisalwaysabetterlocation
forchildren.Takespecialcarenottoallowachildtoleanoveroragainsttheside
window,evenifthechildisseatedinachild-restraintsystem.
