Operation
Engine compartment
Checking engine oil level with the
control system (ML 500 only)
̈   Press button k or j on the
steering wheel until the following
message is seen in the multifunction
display:
i
If you want to interrupt the checking
procedure, press the k or j
button on the multifunction steering
wheel.
When checking the oil level
ț
the vehicle must be parked on level
ground
ț
with the engine at operating tempera-
ture, the vehicle must have been
stationary for at least five minutes with
the engine turned off

If necessary, add engine oil.
For adding engine oil see (୴ page 495).
For more information on engine oil, see the
“Technical data” section (୴ page 493) and
One of the following messages will
subsequently appear in the
multifunction display:
ț
with the engine not at operating tem-
perature yet, the vehicle must have
been stationary for at least 30 minutes
with the engine turned off
(୴ page 495).
ț  Engine oil level ok
To check the engine oil level via the
multifunction display, do the following:
ț  Add 1.0 qt. to reach max. oil
level

Switch on the ignition (୴ page 34).
(Canada: 1.0 liter)
The standard display (୴ page 156)
should appear in the multifunction
display.
ț  Add 1.5 qts. to reach max. oil
level
(Canada: 1.5 liters)
ț  Add 2.0 qts. to reach max. oil
level
(Canada: 2.0 liters)
