Downshifting increases power going uphill, or
provides engine braking downhill. For best fuel
economy during normal driving conditions, always
drive with the shift lever in the “D” position.
Overdrive switch
Lock release knob
To turn “ON” or “OFF” Depress the overdrive
switch to choose either 3-speed (“OFF”) or 4-speed
(“ON”) operation. During normal driving conditions,
always drive with overdrive “ON.” This allows the
transmission to shift automatically into 4-speed
operation at higher speeds, increasing fuel economy.
If the indicator light on the instrument cluster is
illuminated, overdrive is “OFF.”
Fold down
Turning off the engine will cause overdrive to return
to the default “ON” setting.
