Getting tough with safety. The immensely strong monocoque body and
inner safety cell, protected by meticulously engineered front and rear
crumple zones, absorb energy on impact. While ultra-high-strength steel
is used in the construction of the body, dual-phase steel, which requires
special pressing because of its resilience, is found in key components such
as the front windscreen pillars and lower side sills. The result is a first
class, weight-efficient safety cell.
When tested in 2007
Freelander 2 was the first
vehicle in its class to be
awarded a five star rating
for Adult Occupant Protection
in the rigorous Euro
NCAP tests.
Seven airbags, fitted as standard on all vehicles, play a key role in helping to protect all occupants.
