Automatic transmission

Briefly press the gear selector lever to
the right in the D+ direction
Deactivating manual shift program
Emergency operation (Limp Home
Mode)

Press the program mode selector
switch (୴ page 175) repeatedly
untilC orS appears in the right
multifunction display.
(୴ page 166).
If vehicle acceleration worsens or the
transmission no longer shifts, the trans-
mission is most likely operating in limp
home (emergency operation) mode. In this
mode only second gear and reverse gear
can be activated.

Press button 2 on the right side of the
steering wheel (୴ page 174).

The transmission shifts to the next
higher gear.
̈ Restart the engine.
The transmission will go to the
automatic program mode (C or S).

Stop the vehicle.
If, instead of the manual program mode
symbolM, the symbol p appears in the
right multifunction display (୴ page 165),
shift to the next higher gear. The fuel
supply will otherwise be interrupted to
prevent the engine from overrevving.
Move gear selector lever to P.
Turn off the engine.
The MANUAL program mode is not
stored.
̈ Wait at least ten seconds before
restarting.

Restart the engine.
Kickdown
Move gear selector lever to position D
(for second gear) or R.
Using the kickdown when driving in the
MANUAL program mode is not possible.

Have the transmission checked at an
authorized Mercedes-Benz Center as
soon as possible.
