The ECO start/stop function
With the A-Class, you can save money and cut emissions
at every junction or traffic light. Thanks to their ECO
start/stop function, the A160 BlueEFFICIENCY and
A180 BlueEFFICIENCY petrol models turn the engine
off when it’s not needed, reducing both overall fuel
consumption and CO2 emissions.
smoothly and fully automatically. The result is up to 12%
lower fuel consumption, with combined cycle figures of
47.1mpg for the A160 BlueEFFICIENCY and 44.8mpg for
the A180 BlueEFFICIENCY.

The principle is simple: just put the car in neutral when
coming to a standstill and the ECO start/stop function
automatically cuts the engine. Once the ECO indicator on
the instrument display confirms the system is operational
and the vehicle is at rest, you can release the foot brake
pedal and the engine will remain off until you engage
first gear. The engine will then start up again – quietly,
