IncreasingtheTotalSeatedWeightontheFrontPassengerSeat:
Whenaninfantorsmallchildsitsonthefrontpassengerseat,increasingthetotal
seatedweightonthefrontpassengerseatfromthetotalseatedweightof
approximately30kg(66lb)isdangerous.Thefrontpassengerseatweightsensorswill
detecttheincreasedtotalseatedweight,whichcouldresultintheunexpected
deploymentofthefrontpassengerfrontandsideairbagsandseatbeltpretensioner
systeminanaccidentandseriousinjury.Increasingthetotalseatedweightonthe
frontpassengerseatbeyondthetotalseatedweightofapproximately30kg(66lb)
couldresultinthefrontpassengerfrontandsideairbagsandseatbeltpretensioner
systemdeploymentinanaccidentunderthefollowingconditions,forexample:
Luggageorotheritemsareplacedontheseatwiththechildinthechild-restraint
l
system.
Arearpassengerorluggagepushorpulldownonthefrontpassengerseatback.
l
Arearpassengerstepsonthefrontpassengerseatrailswiththefeet.
l
Luggageorotheritemsareplacedontheseatbackorhungontheheadrestraint.
l
Theseatiswashed.
l
Liquidsarespilledontheseat.
l
Thefrontpassengerseatismovedbackward,pushingintoluggageorotheritems
l
placedbehindit.
Thefrontpassengerseatbackcontactstherearseat.
l
Luggageorotheritemsareplacedbetweenthefrontpassengerseatanddriverseat.
l
Anyaccessorieswhichmightincreasethetotalseatedweightonthefrontpassenger
l
seatareattachedtothefrontpassengerseat.
Thefrontpassengerfrontandsideairbagsandseatbeltpretensionersystemswill
deactivateifthetotalseatedweightonthefrontpassengerseatiscloseto30kg(66lb)
andtheywillreactivatebeforetheweightexceeds42kg(93lb).
CAUTION
Toassureproperdeploymentofthefrontairbagandtopreventdamagetothesensors

inthefrontseatbottoms:
Donotplacesharpobjectsonthefrontseatbottomsorleaveheavyluggageon
l
them.
Donotspillanyliquidsonthefrontseatsorunderthefrontseats.
l
Toallowthesensorstofunctionproperly,alwaysperformthefollowing:
l
Adjustthefrontseatsasfarbackaspossibleandalwayssituprightagainstthe
l
seatbackswithseatbeltswornproperly.
Ifyouplaceyourchildonthefrontpassengerseat,securethechild-restraintsystem
l
properlyandslidethefrontpassengerseatasfarbackaspossible(page2-30).
