nical data.
Inquire about methods of increasing this value
at your service center.
The vehicle is equipped with an enhanced sus‐
pension system on the rear axle and, depending
on the vehicle type, with a more powerful engine
cooling system.
Fold the cover outward.
Mounting
Before driving
Be sure that adequate clearance is maintained
for raising and opening the glass sunroof*.
Drawbar nose weight
▷
▷
Minimum nose weight: 55 lb/25 kg.
Maximum nose weight: 198 lb/90 kg.
Utilize these as fully as possible.
Magnetic roof-mounted luggage rack
Because of the aluminum roof, magnetic roof-
mounted luggage racks cannot be mounted.
The maximum load is lowered by the weight of
the trailer hitch and the drawbar nose weight.
The drawbar nose weight increases the vehicle
weight.
Loading
Because roof racks raise the vehicle's center of
gravity when loaded, they have a major effect on
vehicle handling and steering response.
The approved gross vehicle weight, refer to
Technical Data, may not be exceeded.
Therefore, note the following when loading and
driving:
Loading
▷
Do not exceed the approved roof/axle loads
and the approved gross vehicle weight, refer
to page 255.
Stow the load as low and close to the axles as
possible.
A low center of gravity in the trailer increases the
driving safety of the entire car-trailer combina‐
tion.
▷
▷
▷
Distribute the roof load uniformly.
The roof load should not be too large in area.
Always load the heaviest pieces on the bot‐
tom.
Tire inflation pressure
Note the tire inflation pressure of the vehicle and
trailer.
▷
▷
▷
Fasten roof-mounted cargo correctly and
securely.
For the vehicle, the tire inflation pressure, refer
to page 225, for higher loads applies.
Do not let objects project into the opening
path of the tailgate.
For the trailer, the specifications of the manu‐
facturer apply.
Drive smoothly. Avoid sudden acceleration
and braking maneuvers. Take corners gen‐
tly.
Flat Tire Monitor
After correcting the tire inflation pressure and
hitching or unhitching a trailer, reinitialize the
Flat Tire Monitor, refer to page 95.
