Performance under
pressure
The B-Class petrol models eat up the miles with ease, yet
drink only in moderation. Thanks to innovations such as
reduced friction losses and optimised combustion, they
are as efficient and environmentally friendly as ever, with
lower fuel consumption and fewer emissions. For more
details about the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of
all B-Class models, please refer to page 50.
Rather like athletes, diesel engines are often at their best
under pressure. That’s why our common-rail diesel
engines feature high-pressure direct injection. It sends
fine jets of fuel into the combustion chambers and ensures
exactly the right amount is injected at any engine speed.
This not only reduces the amount of fuel required and
lowers CO2 emissions, it also maximises torque, with up to
250
300
Nm and 109hp (80kW) for the B180 CDI and up to
Nm and 140hp (103kW) for the B200 CDI.
