Adaptive brake lights
Air suspension with self-levelling
The rear air suspension provides
surefooted handling whatever the
vehicle’s load, while also offering
excellent ride comfort and helping to
protect sensitive cargo. Its electronic
self-levelling maintains a constant
ride height by compensating
Parktronic
Diesel particulate filter
This system complements Adaptive
ESP and improves safety when
towing. It strategically applies the
brakes on the towing vehicle and
reduces engine torque if the trailer
starts to sway from side to side,
thereby helping the driver to stabilise
the vehicle/trailer combination.
Where the system intervenes
several times in succession, the
braking force is increased each time,
resulting in a noticeable drop in
road speed.
The adaptive brake lights enhance
active safety by providing a clearer
indication of an emergency braking
situation. In the event of emergency
braking at speeds of over 32 mph,
the adaptive brake lights start to
flash, thus sending a warning to the
drivers behind and helping to shorten
their reaction times. If an emergency
stop is performed at speeds of over
44 mph, the hazard warning lights
are activated automatically once the
vehicle comes to a standstill.
Parktronic is a parking aid that
assists the driver when parking or
manoeuvring in tight spaces. Working
on the same principle as sonar, the
system detects and automatically
warns of obstacles either just in front
of or behind the vehicle. Initially, the
driver is alerted to the presence of an
obstacle via a display in the centre of
the instrument panel. If the distance
to the obstacle falls below 35cm,
this is backed up by an intermittent
audible warning, followed by a
The levels of particulate emissions
per diesel car have dropped
dramatically in recent years.
Nonetheless, the constantly
increasing number of diesel vehicles
means that total emissions remain
too high and further reductions are
needed. The diesel particulate filter
from Mercedes-Benz is a breath of
fresh air in this respect. It removes
more than 95% of particulates from
the exhaust gases. At the same time,
a continuous regeneration process
prevents the filter from becoming
clogged and ensures no fuel additives
are needed.

in night-time driving, ensuring the
road is always illuminated effectively
without dazzling other drivers.

distance drops to about 20cm.
