Ready for every kind of road
Four-wheel drive, 4ETS and AirMATIC suspension
Icy tarmac, muddy backroads, gravel tracks –
with an M-Class, you can tackle any surface in
safety and comfort. Its permanent four-wheel
drive with Four-Wheel Electronic Traction
System (4ETS) and AirMATIC air suspension
ensure optimum traction whatever the terrain.
The four-wheel drive system splits power
equally between the front and rear wheels,
while 4ETS ensures each wheel has sufficient
traction at all times, applying the brakes if
a particular wheel starts t
drive torque to the other wheels.
AirMATIC comes as standard on the ML 450 CDI,
ML500 and ML63 AMG and is optional on all
other models.
AirMATIC air suspension, too, adapts auto-
matically to the conditions – its Adaptive
Damping System (ADS) monitors both
suspension and driving situation and adjusts
the damper settings as required. There’s
also a manual function that allows you to
switch between sport and comfort settings.
You can also give your M-Class even greater
off-road ability at the touch of a button.
Just press the off-road switch and all electronic
driving systems will adopt special
rough-terrain settings.
4ETS automatically transfers drive torque to the wheels with the most grip
