Active safety in the M-Class
With its watchful sensors and intelligent
electronics, the M-Class not only knows what’s
happening at the wheels, it has a good idea
what’s coming next too. This helps driving aids
such as the Electronic Stability Programme
(ESP) and the Four-Wheel Electronic Traction
System (4ETS) to take rapid action should a
potentially dangerous situation arise. The
sensors also allow the tyre pressure loss
warning system or the optional – more compre-
hensive – tyre pressure monitoring system to
alert you if one of the tyres suffers a critical loss
of air, and even enable the car to recognise if an
accident is imminent.
The Pre-Safe system for anticipatory occupant
protection then uses the precious seconds before
an impact to close the windows and sunroof and
activate the seat belt pre-tensioners, helping to
reduce the risk of injury to occupants.
The optionally available Blind Spot Assist pro-
vides an increased level of safety when changing
lanes. If the system detects another vehicle in
the danger zone, a red warning triangle illumi-
nates in the exterior mirror. If the driver still
indicates to change lanes, an additional warning
tone sounds.
