after  approxim ately  40 second s if no  buttons  are pressed
and  the  vehicle   is  in Park.   You  may  also  calibrate   the
compass  by completing   one 360° turn in  an area free from

BRATING”  EVIC message  will  turn  off and  the compass

Com pass  Varian ce
Com pass  Variance  is  the   difference   betw een  magnetic
North   and   Geograp  hic  North.   In   som e  areas  of   the
country,  the difference  betw een magnetic  and  geograp hic
North  is great  enou gh to  cause  the compass  to  give false
read ings. If this occurs,  the compass  variance  must  be set.
Manual   Com pass  Calib ration
If the compass  appears   erratic and  the “COMPASS  CALI-
BRATING” message  does  not appear  in  the EVIC display,
you  must   put  the   compass   into  the  Calibration   Mod e
manu ally.
NOTE:    Magnetic  materials   shou ld  be kep t  away  from
the  overhead  console.
To  put  into   a Calib ration   Mode:   Turn  on  the  ignition
switch  and  set the  display  to  Com pass. Press  the  RESET
button   for   at  least   10  second s  until   the   “COMPASS
CALIBRATING”  message   appears.    Release  the  RESET
button  and  complete   one  360° turn  in  an area  free  from
