For convenience in checking the spare tire inflation,
stow with the valve-stem tow ard the rear of the
vehicle.
WARN ING!
A loose tire or jack , throw n forw ard in a collision or
hard stop could endanger the occupants of the ve-
hicle. Alw ays stow the jack parts and the spare tire in
the places provid ed.
Using the jack-hand le, rotate the drive nu t to the
right until the wheel is draw n into place against the
und ersid e of the vehicle.
Continu e to rotate the nu t until you hear the mecha-
nism click three times. It cannot be overtightened .
Push against the tire several times to be sure it is
securely in place.

Secure the flat or spare tire as follow s:

The center cap of a cast aluminu m wheel must be
rem oved prior to flat tire stow age. Store the center
cap insid e the glove box or other storage compart-
ment.

Check the tire pressu re as soon as possible. Correct
•
Turn the wheel so that the valve-stem is down. Slide
the wheel retainer throu gh the center of the wheel
and position it prop erly across the wheel opening.
NOTE: When reinstalling the wheel center cap, insu re
that the valve stem sym bol on the back of the cap is
pointed tow ard the wheel valve stem . Install the center
cap using hand pressu re only. Do not use a ham mer.
