Remove the screw on the swivel bar.
Remove the swivel bar.
̈ Turn off all electrical consumers.

̈ Connect the positive lead and fasten its
cover 2.
̈ Take out the battery.
With a disconnected battery

Connect the negative lead.

you will no longer be able to turn the key
in the steering lock
Charging and reinstalling battery

automatic transmission: the gear selec-
tor lever will remain locked in position P
Never invert the terminal connections!

Depress parking brake firmly or move
gear selector lever to position P (man-
ual transmission to Neutral).
Never charge a battery while still installed in
the vehicle. Gases may escape during charg-
ing and cause explosions that may result in
paint damage, corrosion or personal injury.
The battery, its filler caps and the vent
tube must always be securely installed
when the vehicle is in operation.

Turn off all electrical consumers.
Remove key from steering lock.
Open the hood (୴ page 174).

Charge battery in accordance with the
instructions of the battery charger
manufacturer.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.

Reinstall the charged battery. Follow
the previously described steps in re-
verse order.
Remove the cover 2 from the positive
terminal.

Disconnect the battery positive lead.
