Ifthevehiclebatteryisdeadorthereisa
malfunctionintheelectricalsystemandthe
liftgatecannotbeunlocked,performthe
followingprocedureasanemergencymeasure
tounlockit:
WARNING
Donotplaceanythingontopofthe
cover:
Placingluggageorothercargoon
topoftheluggagecompartment
coverisdangerous.Duringsudden
brakingoracollision,thecargo
couldbecomeaprojectilethatcould
hitandinjuresomeone.Thevehicle
hasalightweightluggage

Removethecapontheinteriorsurfaceof
theliftgatewithaflatheadscrewdriver.
compartmentcovertokeepthe
contentsofyourluggageareaoutof
sight;itwillnotretainheavyobjects
thatarenottieddowninanaccident
suchasarollover.Tiedownallheavy
objects,whetherluggageorcargo,
usingthetiedownhooks.
Cap
Makesureluggageandcargois
securedbeforedriving:
Notsecuringcargowhiledrivingis
dangerousasitcouldmoveorbe
crushedduringsuddenbrakingora
collisionandcauseinjury.

Turnthelevertotherighttounlockthe
liftgate.
Lever
CAUTION
Makesuretheluggagecompartment
coverisfirmlysecured.Ifitisnot
firmlysecured,itcouldunexpectedly
disengageresultingininjury.
Afterperformingthisemergencymeasure,
havethevehicleinspectedatanAuthorized
MazdaDealerassoonaspossible.
Closingtheliftgate
Usebothhandstopushtheliftgatedown
untilthelocksnapsshut.Donotslamit.
Pullupontheliftgatetomakesureitis
securelylatched.
