Disconnecting the battery
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO* (Canada
only):
G

Press the start/stop button until
the engine shuts off.
Warning!
With a disconnected battery
̈ Open the driver’s door.

you will no longer be able to turn the
̈ Open the hood (୴ page 325).
SmartKey in the starter switch and
pressing the KEYLESS-GO* start/stop
button (Canada only) will have no effect

Remove the filter box (୴ page 447).
Read and observe safety instructions

the gear selector lever will remain
locked in position P
and precautions (୴ page 446).

Remove cover from the positive
terminal 2.
! Always disconnect the starter battery in the
order described below. You could otherwise
damage the vehicle’s electronics.
i If the battery is discharged, you must use
the mechanical key to unlock (୴ page 424) or
lock (୴ page 425) the vehicle.
Disconnect the battery positive lead.
̈ Apply the parking brake (୴ page 134).

Make sure gear selector lever* is set to
position P (manual transmission to
Neutral).

̈
Turn off all electrical consumers.
Remove SmartKey from starter switch.
