FOOTBRAKE
HANDBRAKE
Asasafetyprecaution,thehydraulicbraking
systemoperatesthroughdualcircuits.Ifone
circuitfailstheotherwillcontinuetofunction,
butincreasedbrakepedaltravel,greaterpedal
effortandlongerstoppingdistanceswillbe
experienced.
Unlikemostothervehicles,thehandbrake
operatesontherearpropellershaft,andNOT
ontheroadwheels.Thismayresultinslight
movementofthevehicleafterthehandbrake
isapplied.
Applythehandbrakebypullingbackthelever.
Torelease,pulltheleverbackslightlyand
holdthereleasebuttondepressedwhile
allowingthelevertofullyreturntoitsoff
position.
Brakepads
Brakepadsrequireaperiodofbeddingin.You
shouldavoidheavybrakingexceptin
emergenciesforatleastthefirst800km.
Rememberthatregularservicingisvitalto
ensurethatthebrakepadsareexaminedfor
wearandchangedperiodicallytoensurelong
termsafetyandoptimumperformance.
WARNING
DONOTapplythehandbrakewhilethe
vehicleisinmotion(exceptinan
emergency)asthiscouldresultinlossof
vehiclecontrolanddamagetothe
transmission.
WARNING
DONOTrestyourfootonthebrakepedal
whiletravellingasthismayoverheatthe
brakes,reducetheirefficiencyandcause
excessivewear.
Donotrelyonthehandbraketooperate
effectivelyifthevehiclehasbeensubjected
toimmersioninmudandwater.(see
’Off-roaddriving’).
NEVERmoveavehiclewithouttheengine
runningbecausebrakingassistancemaynot
beavailable.Thepedalbrakeswillstill
function,butmorepressurewillbe
required.
ALWAYStakeparticularcarewhenbeing
towedwiththeengineturnedoff.
Ifthebrakewarninglightshouldilluminate
whilethevehicleisinmotion,bringthe
vehicletoahaltasquicklyastraffic
conditionsandsafetypermitandseek
qualifiedassistancebeforecontinuingDO
NOTpumpthebrakepedal.Ifthebrake
pedalispumpedthebrakingsystemmay
loseanyremainingassistanceavailable.
