Warninglightsandgaugescanalertyoutoavehicleconditionthatmay
becomeseriousenoughtocauseexpensiverepairs.Awarninglightmay
illuminatewhenaproblemexistswithoneofyourvehicle’ sfunctions.
Manylightswillilluminatewhenyoustartyourvehicletomakesurethe
bulbworks.Ifanylightremainsonafterstartingthevehicle,havethe
respectivesysteminspectedimmediately.
Checkengine:TheCheckEngine
indicatorlightilluminateswhenthe
ignitionisfirstturnedtotheON
positiontocheckthebulb.Solid
illuminationaftertheengineisstartedindicatestheOnBoard
DiagnosticsSystem(OBD-II)hasdetectedamalfunction.Referto
OBD-IIintheMaintenanceandSpecificationschapter.Ifthelightis
blinking,enginemisfireisoccurringwhichcoulddamageyourcatalytic
converter.Driveinamoderatefashion(avoidheavyaccelerationand
deceleration)andhaveyourvehicleservicedimmediately.
Underenginemisfireconditions,excessiveexhausttemperatures
coulddamagethecatalyticconverter,thefuelsystem,interior
floorcoveringsorothervehiclecomponents,possiblycausingafire.
Checkfuelcap:Illuminateswhen
CHECK
thefuelcapmaynotbeproperly
FUEL
CAP
installed.Continueddrivingwith
thislightonmaycausetheCheck
enginewarninglighttocomeon,
refertoFuelfillercapintheMaintenanceandSpecificationchapter.
Brakesystemwarninglight:To
confirmthebrakesystemwarning
lightisfunctional,itwill
momentarilyilluminatewhenthe
ignitionisturnedtotheONpositionwhentheengineisnotrunning,or
inapositionbetweenONandSTART,orbyapplyingtheparkingbrake
whentheignitionisturnedtotheONposition.Ifthebrakesystem
warninglightdoesnotilluminateatthistime,seekserviceimmediately
fromyourdealership.Illuminationafterreleasingtheparkingbrake
indicateslowbrakefluidlevelandthebrakesystemshouldbeinspected
immediatelybyyourservicingdealership.
