NOTE:
Grindingnoisefrompowersteering
pump may be heard immediately
aftertheengineisstartedinextremely
cold condition (below -4°F). If the
noisestopsduringwarmup,thereis
noabnormalfunctioninthesystem.
This is due to a power steering fluid
characteristicinextremelycoldcon-
ditions.

WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by en-
gine coolant temperature and may
sometimes operate even when the
engine is not running. Use extreme
caution when working near the
bladesofthecoolingfansothatyou
are not injured by a rotating fan
blade. As the engine coolant tem-
peraturedecreases,thefanwillauto-
matically shut off. This is a normal
condition.
FLUID RECOMMENDATION
Onlyautomatictransmissionfluidmeet-
ingthespecificationofDexron2should
be used in the power steering system.

Thepowersteeringfluidlevelshouldbe
checked daily.
Theenginecoolingfanshouldoperate
beforethetemperaturegaugereaches
the upper portion of the scale and the
condenser fan should operate when-
ever the air conditioning is in use.
Tocheckthepowersteeringfluidlevel,
be sure the ignition is "OFF", then
check to make certain that the power
steeringfluidlevelisbetweenthe"MAX"
and "MIN" level markings on the fluid
reservoir.

Power steering hoses should be
checkedfordamage,deteriorationand
leakage at each service.
