Thefrontandsidesupplementalrestraintsystems(SRS)includeupto4airbags.Please
verifytheairbagsequippedonyourvehiclebylocatingthe“SRSAIRBAG”location
indicators.Theseindicatorsarevisibleintheareawheretheairbagsareinstalled.
Theairbagsareinstalledinthefollowinglocations:
Thesteeringwheelhub(driverairbag)

Thepassengerdashboard(passengerairbag)
Theoutboardsidesoftheseatbacks(sideairbags)í

Theairbagsupplementalrestraintsystemsaredesignedtoprovidesupplementalprotection
incertainsituations,soseatbeltsarealwaysimportantinthefollowingways:
Withoutseatbeltusage,theairbagscannotprovideadequateprotectionduringanaccident.
Seatbeltusageisnecessaryto:
Keeptheoccupantfrombeingthrownintoaninflatingairbag.

Reducethepossibilityofinjuriesduringanaccidentthatisnotdesignedforairbag
l
inflation,suchasroll-overorrearimpact.
Reducethepossibilityofinjuriesinfrontal,nearfrontal,sidecollisionsthatarenot
l
severeenoughtoactivatetheairbags.
Reducethepossibilityofbeingthrownfromyourvehicle.
l
Reducethepossibilityofinjuriestolowerbodyandlegsduringanaccidentbecausethe
l
airbagsprovidenoprotectiontothesepartsofthebody.
Holdthedriverinapositionwhichallowsbettercontrolofthevehicle.

Forsomemodels,apassengerairbagdeactivationswitchisprovided.Thisswitchshould
beusedtodeactivatethepassengerfrontandsideairbagsandalsothepassengerseatbelt
pretensionersystemifachild-restraintsystemisinstalledonthepassengerseat.Makesure
thepassengerairbagdeactivationswitchisintheONpositionexceptwhenachild-
restraintsystemisinstalledonthepassengerseat.RefertoPassengerAirBagDeactivation
Switchonpage2-39.
Ifyourvehicleisalsoequippedwithadriverandpassengeroccupantclassification
system,refertotheDriverandPassengerOccupantClassificationSystem(page2-43)
fordetails.
Toreducethechanceofinjuriescausedbythedeploymentofthepassengerairbaginthe
unlikelyeventofanaccident,therearetwomethodstodeactivatethepassengerairbagas
follows,however,thesurestwaytopreventthepassengerairbagfromdeployingistouse
theignitionkeytoturnitoffratherthanrelyonthepassengerseatweightsensors,which
willalsodetectotherloadsorobjectsonandaroundthepassengerseat.
Smallchildrenmustbeprotectedbyachild-restraintsystemasstipulatedbylawinevery
stateandprovince.Incertainstatesandprovinces,largerchildrenmustuseachild-restraint
system(page2-17).
