Occupant protection
Sometimes an accident proves unavoidable. That’s why the S-Class comes with a range of systems that enhance occupant protection in the event
of an impact.
Airbags (standard). In 1981, the S-Class became
the first passenger car to be fitted with an
inflatable protective cushion for the driver –
just one of many S-Class safety innovations.
From 1985, front seat passengers also benefited
from this highly effective form of occupant
protection. Today, the S-Class is fitted as
standard with nine different airbags: dual-stage
front airbags, sidebags in both front seats and
windowbags. Plus there’s the driver’s side knee-
bag that can enhance knee and leg protection in
certain types of accident. Finally there are rear
sidebags that further reduce the risk of injury
to children or other passengers in the rear.
Up to nine airbags help to protect you and your passengers in the event of an accident
