Liftgate
To open the liftgate:
Locking and unlocking

Touch Trunk on
the touchscreen
CONTROLS
window, or
When sitting inside Model S,
you can lock doors, open
the front and rear trunks,
and open the charge port
by touching CONTROLS on
the bottom left corner of the
touchscreen.

Double-click the Trunk
button on the key, or
Press the switch
located under the
liftgate’s handle.
If Model S is equipped
with a powered liftgate,
you can close it using the
touchscreen, the Trunk
button on the key, or by
pressing the button on the underside
of the liftgate (see the illustration on page 11).
Child protection locks

To stop a powered liftgate when it is moving, touch Trunk on the
touchscreen CONTROLS window, press the Trunk button on the key,
or press the button on the underside of the liftgate.
Turn on child protection locks
to prevent children inside
Model S from opening the
rear doors or the liftgate.
On the touchscreen, touch
CONTROLS > SETTINGS.
If you leave the liftgate open for more than an hour, the power closing
feature is temporarily disabled. Manually close the liftgate to restore
powered operation.
If the liftgate senses an obstruction while closing, it automatically
opens and sounds two chimes. Remove the obstruction and try
closing it again. If it can’t close it for a second time, powered operation
is temporarily disabled. Manually close the liftgate to restore powered
operation.
