Toreducethechanceofinjuriescausedbythedeploymentofthepassengerairbag,there
aretwomethodstodeactivatethepassengerairbagforachild'ssafetyasfollows―
howeverthesurestwaytoavoidthepassengerairbagnotdeployingistousethekeyand
turnoffthepassengerairbagandnotrelyonthepassengerseatweightsensors,whichwill
alsodetectotherloadsorobjectsonandaroundthepassengerseat;
Passengerairbagdeactivationswitch
Thisswitchshouldbeusedtodeactivatethepassengerfrontandsideairbagsandalsothe
passengerseatbeltpretensionersystemifinstallingachild-restraintsystemisinstalledon
thepassengerseat.
MakesurethefrontpassengerairbagdeactivationswitchisintheONpositionexcept
whenachild-restraintsystemisinstalledonthefrontpassengerseat.

Passengerseatweightsensors
Thesesensorsdeactivatethepassengerfrontandsideairbagsandalsothepassengerseat
beltpretensionersystemwhenthetotalseatedweightonthepassengerseatislessthan
approximately30kg(66lb).
Whenaninfantorsmallchildisseatedonthepassengerseat,thesystemshutsoffthe
passengerairbag,somakesurethepassengerairbagdeactivationindicatorlight
illuminates.

LATCHChild-RestraintSystem
WehaveinstalledlowerLATCHanchorpointsforLATCHstylejuniorseatsandinfant
carriersthatworkwithouttethersonly.Anyotherchild-restraintsystemthathasanupper
tethercannotbeusedinthisvehiclebecausethereisnotetheranchor.Achild-restraint
systemwithatethercannotbeproperlymountedinthisvehicleunlessthechildrestraint
manufacturerprovidesinstructionsonmountingthechild-restraintsystemwithonlyseat
beltsinautomaticlockingmode.Eventhen,withoutatether,thechild-restraintsystemmay
moveforwardmoreeasilyinseatbelts,furtherdegradingthesafetyprovidedifyouwereto
putthechildrestraintinatetheranchorequippedrearseatofanothervehicle.Theseatand
headrestraintisdesignedformaximumadultspaceutilizationinthisvehicle.Donottryto
securethetethertosomethingelseinthevehicle,astoomuchslackwillresultandthe
seriousriskofinjuryordeathtothechild.Usetheseatbeltstoproperlysecurethenon-
tetheredchild-restraintsystemsotherthantheLATCHjuniorseatsandnon-tetheredinfant
carriers.Turnoffthepassengerairbagdeactivationswitch.Toexposeandusethelower
LATCHanchorpoints,whichareaffixedtothebodyandnottheseat,slidetheseatallthe
wayrearwardwhichistheoptimalvehicleseatpositionforallchildreninthistwoseatcar.
WARNING
Usethecorrectsizechild-restraintsystem:
Foreffectiveprotectioninvehicleaccidentsandsuddenstops,achildmustbe
properlyrestrainedusingaseatbeltorchild-restraintsystemdependingonageand
size.Ifnot,thechildcouldbeseriouslyinjuredorevenkilledinanaccident.
