Enginecoolantconcentrationsabove60%orbelow40%will
decreasethefreezeprotectioncharacteristicsoftheengine
coolantandmaycauseenginedamage.
Plainwatermaybeaddedinanemergency,butyoumustreplaceitwith
a50/50mixtureofenginecoolantanddistilledwaterassoonaspossible.
Checkthecoolantlevelinthereservoirbeforeyoudriveyourvehiclethe
nextfewtimes(withtheenginecool).Ifnecessary,adda50/50
mixtureofenginecoolantanddistilledwatertotheenginecoolant
reservoiruntilthecoolantlevelisatthe“coldfilllevel”orwithinthe
“coldfillrange”aslistedonthereservoir(dependinguponapplication).
Haveyourdealerchecktheenginecoolingsystemforleaksifyouhave
toaddmorethan1.0liter(1.0quart)ofenginecoolantpermonth.
Toavoidscaldinghotsteamorcoolantfrombeingreleasedfrom
theenginecoolingsystem,neverremovetheradiatorcapwhile
theengineisrunningorhot.Failuretofollowthiswarningmayresult
indamagetotheengine’scoolingsystemandpossibleseverepersonal
injury.
Ifyoumustremovetheradiatorcap,followthesestepstoavoidpersonal
injury:

Beforeyouremovethecap,turntheengineoffandletitcool.
Whentheengineiscool,wrapathickclotharoundthecap.Slowly
turncapcounterclockwiseuntilpressurebeginstorelease.

Stepbackwhilethepressurereleases.

Whenyouaresurethatallthepressurehasbeenreleased,usethe
clothtoturnitcounterclockwiseandremovethecap.

FordMotorCompanyrecommendstheuseofarecycledenginecoolant
producedbyFord-approvedprocesses.
NotallcoolantrecyclingprocessesproducecoolantwhichmeetsFord
specificationESE-M97B44-A.Useofarecycledenginecoolantwhich
doesnotmeettheFordspecificationmayharmengineandcooling
systemcomponents.
