Beforeyoustarttheengine,youshould
always:

Alwayswearappropriateshoeswhen
operating yourvehicle.

Look around the vehicle to be sure
therearenoflattyres,puddlesofoil
or water or other indications of pos-
sible trouble.
o If your Hyundai is equipped with a
manual transaxle, place the gear-
shiftleverinneutralanddepressthe
clutch pedal fully.
o If your Hyundai has an automatic
transaxle,placetheselectorleverin
"P" (park).
o Tostarttheengine,inserttheignition
key and turn it to the "START" posi-
tion. Release it as soon as the en-
ginestarts.Donotholdthekeyinthe
"START" position for more than 15
seconds.
Unsuitable shoes (high heels, ski
boots, etc.) may interfere with your
abilitytousethebrakeandaccelera-
tor pedal, and the clutch (Not all
models).

After entering the car, check to be
sure the parking brake is engaged.
Check that all windows, and lights
are clean.
Check that the interior and exterior
mirrors are clean and in position.
Check your seat, seatback and
head restraint to be sure they are in
their proper positions.

Close all the doors.
Fasten your seat belt and be sure
that all other occupants have fas-
tened theirs.
NOTE:
Forsafety,theenginewillnotstartif
the shift lever is not in "P" or "N"
position(AutomaticTransaxle).

Turn off all lights and accessories
that are not needed.
Whenyouturntheignitionswitchto
"ON"checkthatallappropriatewarn-
inglightsareoperatingandthatyou
have sufficient fuel.
10.Check the operation of warning
lights and all bulbs when key is in
the "ON" position.
