Installationofatetherequippedchild-
restraintsysteminthefront
passenger'sseatdefeatsthesafety
designofthesystemandwillresultin
anincreasedchanceofseriousinjury
ifthechild-restraintsystemgoes
forwardwithoutbenefitofbeing
tethered.
Somechild-restraintsystemsnowcome
withtethersandthereforemustbe
installedontheseatsthattaketethersto
beeffective.InyourMazda,tethered
child-restraintsystemscanonlybe
accommodatedinthefourpositionson
therearseats.
Placetetherequippedchild-restraint
systemswheretherearetether
anchors.

Evenifyourvehicleisequippedwiththe
frontpassengerairbagcut-offsystem
(page2-46),whichautomatically
deactivatesthefrontpassengerairbag,a
rearseatisthesafestplaceforachildof
anyageorsize.
Followtheseinstructionswhenusinga
child-restraintsystem,unlessyouare
attachingaLATCH-equippedchild-
restraintsystemtotherearLATCHlower
anchors.Referto“LATCHChild-
RestraintSystems”(page2-35).
Somechild-restraintsystemsalsoemploy
speciallydesignedLATCHattachments;
referto“LATCHChild-Restraint
Systems”(page2-35).
NOTE
Followthechild-restraintsystem
manufacturer'sinstructionscarefully.If
youarenotsurewhetheryouhavea
LATCHsystemortether,checkinthe
child-restraintsystemmanufacturer's
instructionsandfollowthem
accordingly.Dependingonthetypeof
child-restraintsystem,itmaynot
employseatbeltswhicharein
automaticlockingmode.
