maximumsectionwidth.For

Treadwear200TractionAATemperatureA
TheseTireQualityGradesaredeterminedbystandardsthattheUnited
StatesDepartmentofTransportationhasset.
TireQualityGradesapplytonewpneumaticpassengercartires.Theydo
notapplytodeeptread,winter-typesnowtires,space-saveror
temporaryusesparetires,tireswithnominalrimdiametersof10to12
inchesorlimitedproductiontiresasdefinedinTitle49CodeofFederal
RegulationsPart575.104(c)(2).
U.S.DepartmentofTransportation-Tirequalitygrades:TheU.S.
DepartmentofTransportationrequiresFordMotorCompanytogiveyou
thefollowinginformationabouttiregradesexactlyasthegovernment
haswrittenit.
Treadwear
Thetreadweargradeisacomparativeratingbasedonthewearrateof
thetirewhentestedundercontrolledconditionsonaspecified
governmenttestcourse.Forexample,atiregraded150wouldwearone
andone-half(11/2)timesaswellonthegovernmentcourseasatire
graded100.Therelativeperformanceoftiresdependsupontheactual
conditionsoftheiruse,however,andmaydepartsignificantlyfromthe
normduetovariationsindrivinghabits,servicepractices,and
differencesinroadcharacteristicsandclimate.
Traction AA A B C
Thetractiongrades,fromhighesttolowestareAA,A,B,andC.The
gradesrepresentthetire’sabilitytostoponwetpavementasmeasured
undercontrolledconditionsonspecifiedgovernmenttestsurfacesof
asphaltandconcrete.AtiremarkedCmayhavepoortraction
performance.
