Ifyouaredrivingdownalongorsteephill,shiftintothe“L”gear
position.Donotapplythebrakescontinuously,astheymayoverheat
andbecomelesseffective.

Thetrailertongueweightshouldbe10–15%oftheloadedtrailer
weight.
Afteryouhavetraveled50miles(80km),thoroughlycheckyour
hitch,electricalconnectionsandtrailerwheellugnuts.
Toaidinengine/transmissioncoolingandA/Cefficiencyduringhot
weatherwhilestoppedintraffic,placethegearshiftleverinP(Park).
Vehicleswithtrailersshouldnotbeparkedonagrade.Ifyoumust
parkonagrade,placewheelchocksunderthetrailer’swheels.
RECREATIONAL TOWING
Followtheseguidelinesforyourspecificpowertraincombinationtotow
yourvehicleforpersonaltravel(suchasbehindamotorhomeora
truck).
Incaseofroadsideemergencywithadisabledvehicle,pleasereferto
WreckertowingintheRoadsideEmergencieschapter.
Theseguidelinesaredesignedtopreventdamagetoyourvehicle.
FrontWheelDrive(FWD)vehicles:
TowyourFrontWheelDrivevehiclewithallfourwheelsontheground
orwiththefrontwheelsoffthegroundbyusingatowdolly.Ifyouare
usingatowdollyfollowtheinstructionsspecifiedbytheequipment
provider.
AllWheelDrive(AWD)vehicles:
TowyourAllWheelDrivevehiclewithallfourwheelsonthegroundor
withallfourwheelsoffthegroundusingavehicletransporttrailer.Do
nottowyourAllWheelDrivevehiclewiththefrontwheelsoff
theground(byusingatowdolly)andtherearwheelsonthe
ground.ThiswillcausedamagetoyourAWDsystem.Ifyouareusinga
vehicletransporttrailer,followtheinstructionspecifiedbythe
equipmentprovider.
