Driving
YourMazdawillhandledifferentlywithatrailerintow,sopracticeturning,backing,

andstoppinginatraffic-freearea.
Taketimetogetaccustomedtotheextraweightandlength.

Allowmoreroombetweenyourvehicleandtheoneinfrontbecausebrakingdistance
l
increaseswithatrailer.Foreach16km/h(10mph)ofspeed,allowatleastonevehicle
andtrailerlengthbetweenyourMazdaandthevehicleahead.
Avoidjerkystartsorsuddenacceleration.

Avoidsuddenbraking.Itmaycauselossofcontrolandresultinjackknifing,especially
l
soonwetorslipperyroads.
ShifttheshiftlevertotheDpositionwhentowingatrailerinhillyterrainorwhen
l
heavilyloaded.
Thesepositionswillallowoperatingthevehiclewithoutfrequentshifting.
Lanechangesandturning
Avoidquicklanechanges,suddenturns,andtightturns.Slowdownbeforeturningto
avoidtheneedofsuddenbraking.
Aturningtrailerwillmakeatighterarcthanthetowvehicle.Compensatewithturnsthat
arelargerthannormal.
Passing
Planwellaheadtopassothervehicles,andprovideplentyofroombeforechanginglanes.
Crosswindsfrompassingvehicles,especiallylargerones,andtheeffectsofroughroads
willaffecthandling.
Ifswayingoccurs,firmlygripthesteeringwheelandreducespeedimmediately,but
gradually.
Steerstraightahead.Ifnoextremecorrectionofsteeringorbrakingismade,the
combinationoflessspeedandfirmsteeringwillresultinstability.
Backingup
Backingavehiclewithatrailerrequirespracticeandpatience.Backslowly,andhavea
helperoutsideattherearofthetrailertoreducetheriskofanaccident.
Toturnthetrailer,placeyourhandatthebottomofthesteeringwheelandturnitinthe
directionyouwantthetrailertogo.Makeonlyslightmovementstopreventsharpor
prolongedturning.
