Driving and parking
For more information on driving, see “Driving In case of accident

instructions” (Y page 286).
If the vehicle is leaking fuel:
G Warning!
X Do not start the engine under any
circumstances.
Do not park this vehicle in areas where
combustible materials such as grass, hay
or leaves can come into contact with the
hot exhaust system, as these materials
could be ignited and cause a vehicle fire.
Problems while driving
X Exit the vehicle at a safe distance from the
roadway.
X Notify local fire and/or police authorities.
The engine runs erratically and misfires
RAn ignition cable may be damaged.
RThe engine electronics may not be
operating properly.
To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, or damage to the vehicle or the
vehicle drivetrain, as a result of vehicle
movement, always do the following before
turning off the engine and leaving the
vehicle:
If the extent of the damage cannot be
determined:
RUnburned gasoline may have entered the
catalytic converter and damaged it.
X Contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center or call Roadside Assistance.
X Give very little gas.
If no damage on major assemblies, fuel
X Have the problem checked at an authorized system, and engine mount can be
RKeep right foot on the brake pedal.
REngage the parking brake.

X Start the engine in the usual manner.
RManual transmission: Shift the manual
transmission into 1st gear or reverse
gear R.
The coolant temperature is above
248‡
(120†)
The coolant is too hot and is no longer cooling
the engine.
RAutomatic transmission: Shift the
automatic transmission into park
position P.
X Stop the vehicle in a safe location as soon
as possible.
X Turn off the engine immediately.
X Allow the engine and coolant to cool off.
X Check the coolant level and add coolant if
necessary (Y page 258).
RSlowly release the brake pedal.
RWhen parked on an incline, always turn
the front wheels towards the road curb.
