overheating,thevehiclelosespower,or
youhearaloudknockingorpinging
noise,theengineisprobablytoohot.
Oncetheenginecoolantexceedsa
presettemperature,anelectricalcooling
fanturnson.Itwillcontinuerunning
forabout10minutesaftertheignition
switchisturnedtooff.

Inspection:
Putavehiclewithanautomatic
transmissioninpark(P),amanual
transmissioninneutral.
Workingneartheelectricalcooling
fanwhenitisrunningisdangerous.
Youcouldbehitbythefanand
seriouslyinjured.Turnofftheignition
switchandmakesurethefanisnot
runningbeforeattemptingtowork
neartheelectricalcoolingfan.
Applytheparkingbrake.

escapingfromunderthehoodorfrom
theenginecompartment.
Ifsteamiscomingfromtheengine
compartment:
Don'tgonearthefrontofthevehicle.
Stoptheengine.
Waituntilthesteamdissipates,then
openthehoodandstarttheengine.
CoolingSystemCap:
Whentheengineandradiatorarehot,
scaldingcoolantandsteammayshoot
outunderpressureandcauseserious
injury.Don'tremovethecooling
systemcapwhentheengineand
radiatorarehot.
Ifneithercoolantnorsteamis
escaping:
SteamfromOverheatedEngine:
Steamfromanoverheatedengineis
dangerous.Theescapingsteamcould
seriouslyburnyou.Openthehood
ONLYaftersteamisnolonger
escapingfromtheengine.
Openthehoodandidletheengineuntil
itcools.
CAUTION
Ifthecoolingfandoesnotoperate
whiletheengineisrunning,theengine
temperaturewillincrease.Stopthe
engineandcallanAuthorizedMazda
Dealer.
