Whenairbagcrashsensorsdetectasideimpactofgreaterthanmoderateforce,an
electricalcurrentissenttotheinflators.
Gasesareproducedtoinflatethesideandcurtainairbagsandaftertheinflation,theside
andcurtainairbagsquicklydeflate.
Thesideandcurtainairbagswillfunctiononlyonce.Afterthat,thesideandcurtainair
bagswillnotworkagainandmustbereplaced.OnlyanAuthorizedMazdaDealercan
replacethesystems.
The side and curtain air bags will deploy only on the side the
vehicle receives the force of the impact.
WARNING
Donotplaceluggageorotherobjectsunderthefrontseats:
Placingluggageorotherobjectsunderthefrontseatsisdangerous.Thesideand
curtainairbagwiringcouldbedamaged,andintheeventofasidecollision,theside
andcurtainairbagsmaynotdeploy,whichcouldresultindeathorseriousinjury.To
preventdamagetothesideandcurtainairbagwiring,donotplaceluggageorother
objectsunderthefrontseats.

Ifthefrontpassengerseatweightsensorsdetectatotalseatedweightonthefront
passengerseatislessthanapproximately42kg(93lb),thefrontpassengerfrontandside
airbagsandseatbeltpretensionermaynotdeploy(page2-37),butthecurtainairbags
maydeploy.
