The SABIC will not deploy in all side collisions. SABIC The ORC contains a backup power supply system that
deployment will depend on the severity and type of maydeploytheairbagsevenifthebatterylosespoweror
collision.

Becauseairbagsensorsmeasurevehicledecelerationover
time, vehicle speed and damage by themselves are not
goodindicatorsofwhetherornotanairbagshouldhave
deployed.
Also, the ORC turns on the “Airbag Warning
Light”forfourtoeightsecondsforaself-check
whentheignitionisfirstturnedtoON/RUN.
After the self-check, the “Airbag Warning
Light”willturnoff.IftheORCdetectsamalfunctionin
anypartofthesystem,itturnsonthe“AirbagWarning
Light” either momentarily or continuously. A single
chimewillsoundifthelightcomesonagainafterinitial
startup.
Seatbeltsarenecessaryforyourprotectioninallcrashes,
andalsoareneededtohelpkeepyouinposition,away
fromaninflatingairbag.
The ORC also monitors the readiness of the electronic
partsoftheairbagsystemwhenevertheignitionswitchis
intheSTARTorON/RUNpositions.Ifthekeyisinthe
LOCK position, in the ACC position, or not in the
ignition,theairbagsystemisnotonandtheairbagswill
notinflate.
Italsoincludesdiagnosticsthatwillilluminatetheinstru-
ment cluster Airbag Warning Light if a malfunction is
notedthatcouldaffecttheairbagsystem.Thediagnostics
alsorecordthenatureofthemalfunction.
