STARTINGANDOPERATING
STARTINGPROCEDURES
Beforestartingyourvehicle,adjustyourseat,adjustboth
insideandoutsidemirrors,andfastenyourseatbelts.
WARNING!
You or others around you could be injured if you
attempttostarttheenginewithamanualtransmis-
sion in gear — your vehicle will move. Remember,
alwayspushtheclutchpedalinfullyandshiftinto
N(Neutral)beforeattemptingtostarttheengine.
WARNING!
Do not leave children or animals inside parked
vehiclesinhotweather.Interiorheatbuildupmay
causeseriousinjuryordeath.
AutomaticTransmission
StarttheenginewiththeselectorleverintheN(Neutral)
or P (Park) position.Apply the brake before shifting to
anydrivingrange.
ManualTransmission
Applytheparkingbrake,placethegearshiftcontrollever
in N (Neutral) and depress the clutch pedal before
starting vehicle. This vehicle is equipped with a clutch
interlocking ignition system. It will not start unless the
clutchpedalispressedtothefloor.
NormalStarting
Normal starting of either a cold or a warm engine is
obtainedwithoutpumpingordepressingtheaccelerator
pedal. Turn the key to the START position and release
whentheenginestarts.Iftheenginefailstostartwithin
