Seating and Safety Restraints
Theside-curtainairbagsaremountedtoroofside-railsheetmetal,
behindtheheadliner,abovethefirstandsecondrowseats.Incertain
lateralcollisionsorrolloverevents,theside-curtainairbagswillbe
activated,regardlessofwhichseatsareoccupied.Incertainrollover
events,theside-curtainairbagonbothsidesofthevehiclewillbe
inflated,regardlessofwhichseatsareoccupied.Theside-curtainairbags
aredesignedtoinflatebetweenthesidewindowareaandoccupantsto
furtherenhanceprotectionprovidedinsideimpactcollisionsandrollover
events.
Thefactthattheside-curtainairbagsdidnotactivateinacollisiondoes
notmeanthatthereisamalfunctionwiththesystem.Rather,itmeans
theforceswerenotofthetypesufficienttocauseactivation.The
side-curtainairbagsaredesignedtoinflateincertainsideimpact
collisionsorrolloverevents,notinrearimpact,frontalornear-frontal
collisions,unlessthecollisioncausessufficientlateraldecelerationor
rolloverlikelihood.
WARNING:Several
side-curtainairbag
componentsgethotafterinflation.
Donottouchthemafterinflation.
WARNING:Iftheside-curtainairbagshavedeployed,the
side-curtainairbagswillnotfunctionagainunlessreplaced.The
side-curtainairbags(includingtheA,BandCpillartrim)mustbe
inspectedandservicedbyaauthorizeddealerinaccordancewiththe
vehicleworkshopmanual.Iftheside-curtainairbagsarenotreplaced,
theunrepairedareawillincreasetheriskofinjuryinacollision.
Determining if the side-curtain airbags are operational
TheSRSusesareadinesslightintheinstrumentclusteroratoneto
indicatetheconditionofthesystem.RefertotheAirbagreadiness
sectionintheInstrumentclusterchapter.Routinemaintenanceofthe
airbagisnotrequired.
