Avoidexcessivespeedbecausevehiclemomentumcanworkagainstyou
andcausethevehicletobecomestucktothepointthatassistancemay
berequiredfromanothervehicle.Remember,youmaybeabletoback
outthewayyoucameifyouproceedwithcaution.
Mud and water
NOTE:
Ifyoumustdrivethroughhigh
water,driveslowly.Tractionor
brakecapabilitymaybelimited.
Whendrivingthroughwater,
determinethedepth;avoidwater
higherthanthebottomofthe
hubs(ifpossible)andproceed
slowly.Iftheignitionsystemgetswet,thevehiclemaystall.
Oncethroughwater,alwaystrythebrakes.Wetbrakesdonotstopthe
vehicleaseffectivelyasdrybrakes.Dryingcanbeimprovedbymoving
yourvehicleslowlywhileapplyinglightpressureonthebrakepedal.
Becautiousofsuddenchangesinvehiclespeedordirectionwhenyou
aredrivinginmud.Even4WDvehiclescanlosetractioninslickmud.As
whenyouaredrivingoversand,applytheacceleratorslowlyandavoid
spinningyourwheels.Ifthevehicledoesslide,steerinthedirectionof
theslideuntilyouregaincontrolofthevehicle.
Afterdrivingthroughmud,cleanoffresiduestucktorotating
driveshafts,halfshaftsandtires.Excessmudontiresandrotating
driveshaftscausesanimbalancethatcoulddamagedrive
components.
NOTE:
IfthetransmissionPowerTakeOffunitorrearaxlearesubmergedin
water,theirfluidsshouldbecheckedandchanged,ifnecessary.
Drivingthroughdeepwatermaydamagethetransmission.
Iftherearaxleissubmergedinwater,theaxlelubricantshouldbe
checkedandchanged,ifnecessary.Therearaxleisfilledwithalubricant
thatdoesnotnormallyrequirealubricantchangeforthelifeofthe
vehicle.Rearaxlelubricantquantitiesshouldnotneedtobechecked
unlessaleakissuspected.
