Ifitisnecessarytousetheaboveproceduretomovethegearshiftlever,
itispossiblethatafusehasblownorthevehicle’sbrakelampsarenot
operatingproperly.RefertoFusesandrelaysintheRoadside
emergencieschapter.
Donotdriveyourvehicleuntilyouverifythatthebrakelamps
areworking.
Ifyourvehiclegetsstuckinmudorsnowitmayberockedoutby
shiftingbetweenforwardandreversegears,stoppingbetweenshifts,ina
steadypattern.Presslightlyontheacceleratorineachgear.
Donotrockthevehicleiftheengineisnotatnormaloperating
temperatureordamagetothetransmissionmayoccur.
Donotrockthevehicleformorethanafewminutesordamage
tothetransmissionandtiresmayoccurortheenginemay
overheat.
Alwayssettheparkingbrakefullyandmakesurethegearshiftis
latchedinP(Park).Turnofftheignitionwheneveryouleave
yourvehicle.
Iftheparkingbrakeisfullyreleased,butthebrakewarninglamp
remainsilluminated,thebrakesmaynotbeworkingproperly.
Seeyourdealeroraqualifiedservicetechnician.
Driving with a 4–speed automatic transmission (if equipped)
Toputyourvehicleingear,starttheengine,depressthebrakepedal,
thenmovegearshiftleveroutofP(Park).
Holdthebrakepedaldownwhileyoumovethegearshiftlever
fromP(Park)toanotherposition.Ifyoudonotholdthebrake
pedaldown,yourvehiclemaymoveunexpectedlyandinjuresomeone.
