Ifyoudostopthevehicle,remember:
Startingonaninclineorinsoftgroundor
sandisalmostimpossible.Alwaysparkona
firm,levelarea,orwiththevehiclefacing
downhill.
Toavoidwheelspin,selectsecondorthird
gearandusetheminimumthrottlenecessary
togetthevehiclemoving.Forautomatic
transmissionvehicles,select’D’(or’4’ifin
LOWrange).InLOWrange,selectMANUAL
mode(see’Transmissions’forfurther
information).
DriveawayusingtheMINIMUMthrottle
possible.Driveslowlyatalltimes,keeping
brakingtoaminimumandavoidingviolent
movementsofthesteeringwheel.
Ifforwardmotionislost,avoidexcessiveuse
ofthethrottle;thiswillcausewheelspinand
tendtodigthevehicleintothesand.Clear
sandfromaroundthetyresandensurethat
thechassisandaxlesarenotbearingonthe
sandbeforeagainattemptingtomove.
Ifthewheelshavesunk,useanairbaglifting
deviceorhighliftjacktoraisethevehicle,and
thenbuildupsandunderthewheelssothat
thevehicleisagainonlevelground.Ifa
restartisnotpossible,placesandmatsor
laddersbeneaththewheels.
