DRIVING YOUR HYUNDAI

than low-slung sports cars are designed to
perform satisfactorily under off-road condi-
tions. If at all possible, avoid sharp turns or
abrupt maneuvers. As with other vehicles of
this type, failure to operate this vehicle cor-
rectly may result in loss of control or vehicle
rollover.
Do not grip the inside or spokes of the steer-
ingwheelwhendrivingoff-road.Thesteering
wheel could jerk and injure your hands. Al-
ways firmly hold the outer steering wheel
when you are driving off-road.
Driving on snowy or icy roads
Select the 4H or 4L in accordance with the road
conditions, and then gradually depress the ac-
celerator pedal for a smooth start.
Select the 4L mode and drive through slowly.
The maximum advisable wading depth is ap-
proximately 40cm (15.7 in.).
Before driving through water, such as when
crossing shallow streams, first check the depth
of the water and the bottom of the river bed for
firmness. Drive slowly at the speed of 5 km/h
(3mph) and avoid deep water.
Take all necessary safety measures to ensure
thatwaterdamagetotheengineorothervehicle
parts does not occur.
Water entering the engine air intake will cause
severeenginedamage.
Driving on sandy or muddy roads
Select the 4H or 4L and then gradually depress
theacceleratorpedalforasmoothstart.Keepthe
pressure on the accelerator pedal constant as
possible, and drive at low speed.

Climbing sharp grades
Selectthe4Ltomaximizeusetheenginetorque.
Drive at lower speeds in strong crosswinds.
Because of your vehicle’s high center of
gravity, its stability will be affected in cross-
winds. Slower speeds ensure better vehicle
control.
Watercanwashthegreasefromwheelbearings,
causing rusting and premature failure, and may
also enter the axles, transmission and transfer
case,reducingthegearoil'slubricatingqualities.
Descending sharp grades
Select 4L, use the engine brake and descend
slowly.

Checkyourbrakeconditiononceyouareout
of mud or water. Press the brake several
times as you move slowly until your feel
normal braking forces return.
Four-wheel driving on flat and normal roads
canresultinaseverebindingconditionwhen
turning the steering wheel.
Driving in Water
