tailorthedeploymentlevelofthedriverdual-stageairbagbasedonseat
position.Thesystemisdesignedtohelpprotectsmallerdriverssitting
closetothedriverairbagbyprovidingalowerairbagoutputlevel.
Frontpassengersensingsystem
Forairbagstodotheirjobtheymustinflatewithgreatforce,andthis
forcecanposeapotentiallydeadlyrisktooccupantsthatareverycloseto
theairbagwhenitbeginstoinflate.Forsomeoccupants,likeinfantsin
rear-facingchildseats,thisoccursbecausetheyareinitiallysittingvery
closetotheairbag.Forotheroccupants,thisoccurswhentheoccupantis
notproperlyrestrainedbyseatbeltsorchildsafetyseatsandtheymove
forwardduringpre-crashbraking.Themosteffectivewaytoreducethe
riskofunnecessaryinjuriesistomakesurealloccupantsareproperly
restrained.Accidentstatisticssuggestthatchildrenaremuchsaferwhen
properlyrestrainedintherearseatingpositionsthaninthefront.
Airbagscankillorinjureachildinachildseat.NEVERplacea
rear-facingchildseatinfrontofanactiveairbag.Ifyoumust
useaforward-facingchildseatinthefrontseat,movetheseatallthe
wayback.
Alwaystransportchildren12yearsoldandunderintheback
seatandalwaysproperlyuseappropriatechildrestraints.
Thefrontpassengersensingsystemcanautomaticallyturnoffthe
passengerfrontairbag.Thesystemisdesignedtohelpprotectsmall
(childsize)occupantsfromairbagdeploymentswhentheyare
improperlyseatedorrestrainedinthefrontpassengerseatcontraryto
properchild-seatingorrestraintusagerecommendations.Evenwiththis
technology,parentsareSTRONGLYencouragedtoalwaysproperly
restrainchildrenintherearseat.Thesensoralsoturnsoffthepassenger
frontairbagandseat-mountedsideairbag(ifequipped)whenthe
passengerseatisemptytopreventunnecessaryreplacementofairbag(s)
afteracollision.
Whenthefrontpassengerseatisoccupiedandthesensingsystemhas
turnedoffthepassenger’sfrontalairbag,the“passairbagoff”indicator
willlightandstaylittoremindyouthatthefrontpassengerfrontal
airbagisoff.SeeFrontpassengersensingsystemintheairbagssection
