TheSafetyCanopy௢systemisdesignedtoactivewhenthevehicle
sustainslateraldecelerationsufficienttocausetheRCMtoinitiateSafety
Canopy௢inflationorwhenacertainlikelihoodofarollovereventis
detectedbytherolloversensor.
TheSafetyCanopy௢ismountedtoroofside-railsheetmetal,behindthe
headliner,abovethefirstandsecondrowseats.TheSafetyCanopy௢is
designedtoinflatebetweenthesidewindowareaandoccupantsto
furtherenhanceprotectionprovidedinsideimpactcollisionsandrollover
events.
ThefactthattheSafetyCanopy௢didnotactivateinacollisiondoesnot
meanthatsomethingiswrongwiththesystem.Rather,itmeansthe
forceswerenotofthetypesufficienttocauseactivation.TheSafety
Canopy௢isdesignedtoinflateincertainsideimpactcollisionsor
rolloverevents,notinrearimpact,frontalornear-frontalcollisions,
unlessthecollisioncausessufficientlateraldecelerationorrollover
likelihood.
SeveralSafetyCanopy௢
systemcomponentsgethot
afterinflation.Donottouchthem
afterinflation.
IftheSafetyCanopy௢systemhasdeployed,theSafety
Canopy௢willnotfunctionagainunlessreplaced.The
SafetyCanopy௢system(includingtheA,BandCpillartrim)
mustbeinspectedandservicedbyaqualifiedtechnicianin
accordancewiththevehicleservicemanual.IftheSafety
Canopy௢isnotreplaced,theunrepairedareawillincreasetheriskof
injuryinacollision.
Determiningifthesystemisoperational
TheSRSusesareadinesslightintheinstrumentclusteroratoneto
indicatetheconditionofthesystem.RefertotheAirbagreadiness
sectionintheInstrumentClusterchapter.Routinemaintenanceofthe
sideairbagisnotrequired.
