Front passenger sensing system
Thefrontpassengersensingsystemwillturnoffthefrontpassenger’s
frontalairbagundercertainconditions.Thefrontpassenger
seat-mountedsideairbag(ifequipped)willbedeactivatedifthesensor
detectsanemptyseat;otherwise,theseat-mountedsideairbagwillbe
enabled.Thefrontpassengersensingsystemworkswithsensorsthatare
partofthefrontpassenger’sseatandsafetybelt.Thesensorsare
designedtodetectthepresenceofaproperly-seatedoccupantand
determineifthefrontpassenger’sfrontalairbagshouldbeenabled(may
inflate)ornot.
Thefrontpassengersensingsystemisdesignedtomeettheregulatory
requirementsofFederalMotorVehicleSafetyStandard(FMVSS)208
andisdesignedtoturnoffthefrontpassenger’sfrontalairbagif:

thefrontpassengerseatisunoccupied,orhassmall/mediumobjectsin
thefrontseat,
thesystemdeterminesthataninfantispresentinarear-facinginfant
seatthatisinstalledaccordingtothemanufacturer’sinstructions,
thesystemdeterminesthatasmallchildispresentinaforward-facing
childrestraintthatisinstalledaccordingtothemanufacturer’s
instructions,

thesystemdeterminesthatasmallchildispresentinaboosterseat,
afrontpassengertakeshis/herweightoffoftheseatforaperiodof
time,
•
Asmallerperson,suchasachildwhohasoutgrownchildrestraints,
orasmalladultoccupiesthefrontpassengerseat.
Evenwiththefrontpassengersensingsystem,children12and
undershouldbeproperlyrestrainedinthebackseat.
Whenthefrontpassengerseatis
occupiedandthesensingsystem
hasturnedoffthepassenger’s
frontalairbag,theЉpassengerairbag
offЉorЉpassairbagoffЉindicatorwill
lightandstaylittoremindyouthat
thefrontpassengerfrontalairbagis
off.Whenthefrontpassengerseatis
notoccupied(emptyseat)orintheeventthatthefrontpassenger
frontalairbagisenabled(mayinflate),theindicatorlightwillbeunlit.
