Tires, Wheels and Loading
AlwaysinflateyourtirestotheFordrecommendedinflationpressure
evenifitislessthanthemaximuminflationpressureinformationfound
onthetire.TheFordrecommendedtireinflationpressureisfoundon
thetirelabelorcertificationlabelwhichislocatedontheB-Pillarorthe
edgeofthedriver’sdoor.Failuretofollowthetirepressure
recommendationscancauseuneventreadwearpatternsandadversely
affectthewayyourvehiclehandles.
MaximumPermissibleInflationPressureisthetiremanufactures’
maximumpermissiblepressureand/orthepressureatwhichthe
maximumloadcanbecarriedbythetire.Thispressureisnormally
higherthanthemanufacturer’srecommendedcoldinflationpressure
whichcanbefoundoneitherthetirelabelorcertificationlabelwhichis
locatedontheB-Pillarortheedgeofthedriver’sdoor.Thecoldinflation
pressureshouldneverbesetlowerthantherecommendedpressureon
thetirelabelorcertificationlabel.
Whenweathertemperaturechangesoccur,tireinflationpressuresalso
change.A10°F(6°C)temperaturedropcancauseacorresponding
dropof1psi(7kPa)ininflationpressure.Checkyourtirepressures
frequentlyandadjustthemtotheproperpressurewhichcanbefound
onthetirelabelorcertificationlabel.
Ifyouarecheckingtirepressurewhenthetireishot,(i.e.drivenmore
than1mile[1.6km]),never“bleed”orreduceairpressure.Thetiresare
hotfromdrivinganditisnormalforpressurestoincreaseabove
recommendedcoldpressures.Ahottireatorbelowrecommendedcold
inflationpressurecouldbesignificantlyunder-inflated.
Tocheckthepressureinyourtire(s):
1.
Makesurethetiresarecool,meaningtheyarenothotfromdriving
evenamile.
Note:Ifyouhavetodriveadistancetogetairforyourtire(s),check
andrecordthetirepressurefirstandaddtheappropriateairpressure
whenyougettothepump.Itisnormalfortirestoheatupandtheair
pressureinsidetogoupasyoudrive.Never“bleed”orreduceair
pressurewhentiresarehot.
2.
Removethecapfromthevalveononetire,thenfirmlypressthetire
gaugeontothevalveandmeasurethepressurewiththetiregauge.
3.
Addenoughairtoreachtherecommendedairpressure
Note:Ifyouoverfillthetire,releaseairbypushingonthemetalstemin
thecenterofthevalve.Thenrecheckthepressurewithyourtiregauge.
4.
Replacethevalvecap.
