procedureshelpreducetheriskof
injuriesrelatedtothedeploymentof
sideairbags(includingsideair
curtainsystems).
Thesideaircurtainsystemconsists
ofthefollowing:

Aninflatablenyloncurtainwitha
gasgeneratorconcealedbehind
theheadlinerandabovethe
doors.

abovethesidedoorstoallowaircurtaindeployment.
Thesamewarninglight,electroniccontrolanddiagnosticunitasused
forthefrontairbags.
Twocrashsensorslocatedundertheoutboardsideofthefrontseats,
attachednearthefloor.
Twocrashsensorslocatedatthebaseofthe“C”pillarsabovethe
wheelhouse.
Sideaircurtainsandsideairbags,incombinationwithsafetybelts,can
helpreducetheriskofsevereinjuriesintheeventofasignificantside
impactcollision.
Thesideaircurtainsaremountedtothesheetmetalabovethefirstand
secondrowseats.Incertainlateralcollisions,theaircurtainand
seat-mountedsideairbagonthesideaffectedbythecollisionwillbe
inflated,exceptthatthepassengersensingsystemwilldeactivatethe
passengerseat-mountedsideairbagifitdetectsanemptyunbuckled
passengerseat.Theaircurtainwasdesignedtoinflatebetweentheside
windowareaandoccupanttofurtherenhancetheheadprotection
providedtooccupantsinsideimpactcollisions.Theseat-mountedside
airbagwasdesignedtoinflatebetweenthedoorpanelandoccupantto
furtherenhancetheprotectionprovidedoccupantsinsideimpact
collisions.
