Whendrivingoversand,trytokeepallfourwheelsonthemostsolid
areaofthetrail.Avoidreducingthetirepressuresbutshifttoalower
gearanddrivesteadilythroughtheterrain.Applytheacceleratorslowly
andavoidspinningthewheels.
Ifyourvehicleisequippedwithanautomatictransmission:When
drivingatslowspeedsindeepsandunderhighoutsidetemperatures,
useL(Low)gearwhenpossible.L(Low)gearoperationwillmaximize
theengineandtransmissioncoolingcapability.
Undersevereoperatingconditions,theA/Cmaycycleonandoffto
protectoverheatingoftheengine.
Avoidexcessivespeedbecausevehiclemomentumcanworkagainstyou
andcausethevehicletobecomestucktothepointthatassistancemay
berequiredfromanothervehicle.Remember,youmaybeabletoback
outthewayyoucameifyouproceedwithcaution.
Mudandwater
Ifyoumustdrivethroughhighwater,driveslowly.Tractionorbrake
capabilitymaybelimited.
Whendrivingthroughwater,determinethedepth;avoidwaterhigher
thanthebottomofthewheelrims(forcars)orthebottomofthehubs
(fortrucks)(ifpossible)andproceedslowly.Iftheignitionsystemgets
wet,thevehiclemaystall.
