OverTemperatureMode
NOTE:
The transmission electronics constantly monitor the
transmissionoiltemperature.Ifthetransmissiongetstoo
hot,thetransmissionwillchangethewayitshiftstohelp
control the condition. This may result in a slightly
differentfeelingorresponseduringnormaloperationin
D (Drive) position. If the transmission becomes hot
enough the TRANS TEMP warning light in the instru-
ment cluster will come on.After the transmission cools
down,itwillreturntonormaloperation.
• untilThe torquethe transmissionconverter clutchfluid and(TCC)enginewill notcoolantengageare
warm(usuallyafter1–3miles(1.6–4.8km)ofdriving)
andthevehiclespeedisaboveapproximately30mph
(48km/h).Tounderstandthedifferenceinoperation,
drivethevehiclesothatTCCengagementconditions
arecorrect,andthenpressandreleasethe“O/DOFF”
buttononcetodisengagetheTCC.Waitafewseconds,
and then press and release the “O/D OFF” button
again to engage the TCC. You will notice that the
enginerunsatahigherRPMwhendrivingatvehicle
speeds above approximately 30 mph (48 km/h) with
theTCCnotengaged.Thisisanormalcondition.

TorqueConverterClutch
A feature designed to improve fuel economy has been
added to the automatic transmission of this vehicle. A
clutchwithinthetorqueconverterengagesautomatically
atcalibratedspeeds.Thismayresultinaslightlydiffer-
entfeelingorresponseduringnormaloperationinhigh
gear. When the vehicle speed drops or during accelera-
tion,theclutchautomaticallyandsmoothlydisengages.
• Iffirstthefewvehiclesecondshasnotofoperationbeendrivenafterforshiftingseveralthedays,trans-the
missionintogearmayseemsluggish.Thisisduetothe
transmission fluid partially draining from the torque
converter into the transmission. This is considered a
